An eclectic Welsh artist with a wide and varied skills base and a love of experimentation, I strive to create unique work while pushing myself to try new materials and techniques. Despite my desire to challenge myself with unfamiliar methods, my work often finds itself grounded in the traditional, as I am drawn to more ‘hands on’ techniques such as printmaking, embroidery, bookmaking and papermaking. I work on these elements with my own contemporary twist, often combining them with the newest available technology or utilising digital editing tools.
Fascinated by the haptic qualities of physical materials, I explore their textures and tactility. Using my research and thesis as a foundation, my work celebrates the perfect imperfections of the human hand. This is an effort to become a gesture of sincerity that is reinforced by the tacit ideas of physical closeness derived from the handmade, and my work seeks to satisfy a need for direct experience in an increasingly remote and digital world.
I believe that the contemporary arts are largely about “knowing what to do when the rules run out or there are no rules in the first place” (Matthew Crawford).
